Getting the best out of them

These are built light for line work, rigging, and general handling on the boat. When pulling hooks, keep the pliers parallel with the hook shank so the load runs along the jaws rather than across them. Sideways leverage is the weakest direction on any long-nose plier.

For bigger hooks or deeper hook-ups, a dedicated hook remover does the job faster and with less force. Many anglers carry both.
